Wheelset storage and transport system

The system is designed for accumulating wheelsets awaiting inspection, repair or fitting, and for moving them between the bogie section, the wheel shop and the assembly stations. It replaces crane operations and manual rolling, cuts idle time and keeps personnel out of the load movement zone.

The storage consists of inclined rail track sections along which wheelsets roll by gravity to the discharge point. Pneumatic release stops let out one wheelset at a time on command from the control panel. At the outlet the wheelset is received by a transfer car that travels along a cross rail track and delivers it to the required section; the car carries its own track segment, stops and a pusher for transferring the wheelset onto the receiving track.

The scope of supply includes storage sections with release stops, a transfer car with an electromechanical drive, rail track for the car, a cable reel or trolley power feed, control panels and guarding. The layout — number and length of sections, number of discharge points, track length — is developed to the shop plan. On request the car is fitted with radio control, a weighing unit and a wheelset number reader.
