Roof equipment service gantry for locomotives
A stationary gantry along the repair track with fold-down bridging walkways for safe access to pantographs, ventilation and apparatus on the locomotive roof.
We will send photos and drawings of the equipment on request via the contacts page.
Equipment
Description
The gantry gives staff safe access to the locomotive roof for repair and inspection of pantographs, main circuit breakers, surge arresters, ventilation louvres and high-voltage busbars. It is installed along the repair track on one or both sides and allows roof work to be carried out without ladders or suspended cradles.
The load-bearing structure is assembled from standard 3 m sections on posts anchored to the shop floor. The chequer-plate decking is set at locomotive roof level; on the track side there are fold-down bridging walkways that lower onto the roof and form a continuous working surface. A 1100 mm guard rail on the shop side, stairways at the ends and intermediate exits provide evacuation from any part of the gantry.
Access to the decking is tied to the state of the catenary: the gates on the stairways open with a key that is released only after the section of contact wire above the track has been de-energized and earthed. On request the scope includes work area lighting, 220 V sockets and compressed air outlets on the decking, electric drive for the bridging walkways, variable-height sections for locomotives of different series and a beam crane for removing pantographs.
Features
Design features
- Continuous working surface — The fold-down walkways close the gap between the gantry and the roof, forming a single surface along the entire locomotive section.
- Catenary interlock — The gates open only with a key that is released after the contact wire above the track has been de-energized and earthed.
- Modular assembly — 3 m sections allow the gantry to be sized for one or two locomotive sections and extended when the repair program changes.
- Several levels — For depots with a mixed fleet, the decking is made two-level or with height-adjustable sections.
- Utilities on the decking — Lighting, sockets and compressed air outlets are brought to the work stations so tools can be connected without climbing down.
