Turbocharger repair and balancing bench
A set comprising an assembly and disassembly fixture and a balancing machine for repairing locomotive diesel turbochargers with two-plane dynamic rotor balancing.
We will send photos and drawings of the equipment on request via the contacts page.
Equipment
Description
The bench is used in turbocharger repair sections of diesel locomotive depots. It combines two operations: disassembly and assembly of the unit on a rotating fixture with controlled force, and dynamic balancing of the rotor after replacement of the turbine or compressor wheels, bearings or labyrinth seals. Balancing the assembled rotor eliminates excessive vibration and bearing wear after the turbocharger is installed on the engine.
The rotor is placed by its journals on the roller supports of the balancing machine and driven by a belt drive. Piezoelectric sensors on the supports measure vibration, and the processing system calculates the magnitude and angle of unbalance in each correction plane and displays the result on screen. The operator removes the unbalance by taking off metal in the indicated zones or fitting balancing weights, after which a check run is performed.
The assembly and disassembly fixture has a rotating head with locking every 90°, clamping elements for the turbocharger housing and a hydraulic puller for pressing the wheels off the shaft. The balancing machine is built on a rigid bed with adjustable support spacing and a protective guard. Both stations are tooled for the customer's range of turbochargers; fixtures for checking shaft runout and bearing clearances are supplied additionally.
Features
Design features
- Two-plane balancing — The measuring system determines the unbalance on the turbine side and the compressor side separately and indicates the correction angle.
- Rotors of different length and weight — The roller supports travel along the bed guides and are adjusted to the rotor's bearing span and journal diameter.
- Hydraulic puller — The wheels are pressed off the shaft with controlled force, without impact loads on the bearing journals.
- Rotating fixture — The fixture head rotates the turbocharger housing and locks every 90°, giving access to both sides of the unit.
- Balancing report — Measurement results before and after correction are stored and printed for each rotor.
