Bogie tilter for metro cars
Rotates the bogie frame of a metro car through up to 180° and locks it in a convenient position for cleaning, flaw detection and welding work.
We will send photos and drawings of the equipment on request via the contacts page.
Equipment
Description
The tilter is used in the bogie shops of metro depots during intermediate repair and overhaul. After the bogie is dropped out and the motorized wheelsets are removed, the frame goes to the tilter, where it is rotated for inspection of the lower flanges, bracket repair, weld restoration and cleaning before painting. Working on the frame at chest height for the fitter replaces turning it over with a crane and slings and shortens the operation.
The unit consists of two columns with faceplates between which the bogie frame is clamped; one column is driven, the other travels along a rail base to adjust for the frame length. Rotation is performed by a gear motor with a worm gear: the design is self-locking, so the frame stays in the set position without additional locks. The clamping grips are width-adjustable and fitted with interchangeable pads matching the side beam profile of a specific bogie series.
At the customer's request the tilter can be fitted with lifting faceplates to adjust the rotation axis height, a turntable to swing the bogie in plan at the station, a ramp for rolling the bogie in on its own wheels and a welding platform with local extraction. A mobile version on wheeled bases is available for depots without a dedicated station.
Features
Design features
- Rotation through 180° — The frame opens up for access to the lower flanges and inner brackets without repositioning.
- Self-locking gearing — The worm gearbox holds the frame at any rotation angle during a power failure.
- Adjustable column spacing — The travelling column moves along the base, allowing bogies of different lengths to be handled on one tilter.
- Interchangeable grips — Pads matching the beam profile prevent damage to machined surfaces and painted areas of the frame.
- Smooth start and stop — Variable-frequency drive control removes jerks at breakaway and stops the frame precisely in the set position.
