Current collector test bench for metro cars
Checks shoe contact force, travel, retraction force and insulation condition of third-rail current collectors after repair and before installation on the car.
We will send photos and drawings of the equipment on request via the contacts page.
Equipment
Description
The bench is designed for acceptance testing of third-rail current collectors after repair in metro depots and at car repair plants. The collector is mounted on a bogie bracket simulator, after which the bench measures the static contact force of the shoe on the contact surface during raising and lowering, the full shoe travel, retraction force and time, and checks the insulation of the live parts relative to the mounting bracket. The results are compared with the limits for the specific collector type and issued as a test report.
The bench is based on a welded frame with a swivelling mounting bracket, a movable contact-rail simulator plate on a strain-gauge load cell and a retraction drive. The plate position is set in height and reach, which reproduces operating conditions for both bottom-contact and top-contact collectors. The measuring unit records force and displacement in real time, and the bench controller plots the force characteristic over the full shoe travel.
The bench can be extended with a high-voltage insulation test module, a unit for measuring the contact resistance of conductive shunts, a run-in fixture for use after spring replacement and a PC with software that keeps a report database by car number. Mounting tooling is manufactured for every collector type operated in the customer's depot.
Features
Design features
- Full force characteristic — Force is recorded continuously over the whole shoe travel rather than at individual points, revealing sticking joints and sagging springs.
- Contact rail simulator — The plate on the load cell is repositioned in height and reach for bottom-contact and top-contact collection.
- Insulation testing — Insulation resistance check and, as an option, a dielectric strength test between live parts and the base.
- Automatic test report — The controller compares measured values with the limits for the collector type and prints a report with a pass or fail conclusion.
- Fast changeover — Interchangeable brackets for different collector types are fitted without tools in a few minutes.
