Equipment

Description

The bench is designed for acceptance testing of brake cylinders of freight and passenger cars, locomotives and multiple units after repair, as well as for incoming inspection of new cylinders. It checks the leak tightness of the cylinder under pressure, the full and working piston stroke, the filling and release times, and the return of the piston under spring force. The results determine whether the cylinder is cleared for installation on rolling stock.

The cylinder is placed on the bench's swivel plate and clamped pneumatically through an interchangeable adapter matching its diameter. Compressed air from the shop network passes through a preparation unit and is fed to the cylinder according to the program: filling to working pressure, holding while the pressure drop is recorded, stepwise pressure increase with the piston stroke measured by a displacement sensor, and then release with the return time monitored. All measurements are taken by the electronic unit; the operator only mounts the cylinder and starts the cycle.

The bench is built on a welded frame with a pneumatic panel, a control cabinet and a protective screen around the working area. The standard delivery includes a set of adapters for cylinders from 203 to 406 mm in diameter, a pressure sensor, a rod displacement sensor and a touch panel with a report archive. On request the bench is supplemented with a built-in printer, transfer of results to the shop computer, tooling for testing cylinders with a built-in slack adjuster and adapters for non-standard flanges.

Features

Design features

  • Automatic cycle — The program fills the cylinder, holds the pressure and records its drop and the piston stroke without operator involvement — the result is compared with the acceptance limits and shown on the screen.
  • Adapters for every diameter — The set of interchangeable flanges covers cylinders from 203 to 406 mm; changing an adapter takes a few minutes and needs no tools.
  • Accurate measurement — Pressure is monitored by an electronic sensor and piston stroke by a displacement sensor; the accuracy is sufficient for accepting cylinders under the repair rules.
  • Electronic report — The result of every test is stored in the bench archive with the date, cylinder number and operator name; the report is printed or transferred to a computer.
  • Operator protection — The working area is enclosed by a transparent screen; when the screen is opened, pressure in the cylinder is released automatically.
