Induction bearing heater
An induction heater for uniform heating of bearings, labyrinth rings, gears and coupling halves weighing up to 200 kg before shrink fitting, with temperature control and automatic demagnetisation.
We will send photos and drawings of the equipment on request via the contacts page.
Equipment
Description
The heater is used when assembling axle boxes, gearboxes, traction motors and couplings, where a bearing, ring or gear has to be fitted on a shaft with interference. The part is heated uniformly to a temperature at which it slides freely onto the seat, and once it cools the joint has the design interference. Induction heating replaces oil baths and gas torches: the part stays clean and local overheating is ruled out.
The principle is inductive: a coil housed in the body generates an alternating magnetic field that closes through an interchangeable yoke and the part placed on it. Eddy currents are induced in the part and it heats from the inside, while the body and yoke stay cold. A magnetic temperature sensor is attached directly to the ring; when the set value is reached, the control unit reduces power and holds the temperature until the fitter removes the part. At the end of the cycle the heater demagnetises the part automatically.
The unit is floor-standing with a swivel arm that carries the yoke with a heavy part and swings aside for its removal. The delivery includes three interchangeable yokes for different bore diameters, a temperature sensor and heat-resistant gloves. The control panel allows the temperature or heating time to be set and several programs to be stored for typical bearings. Additional yokes for non-standard diameters, a second sensor for monitoring the temperature difference and a support for long parts are available on request.
Features
Design features
- Heating from inside the part — Heat is generated in the ring itself, so the temperature across the section evens out faster than in an oil bath, and the heater body stays cold.
- Control by a sensor on the part — A magnetic thermocouple is attached to the ring; heating stops at the set temperature, protecting the bearing from overheating and tempering of the steel.
- Automatic demagnetisation — After heating, the part is demagnetised so that metal particles are not retained on the raceways.
- Interchangeable yokes — The three yokes in the standard set cover bore diameters from 50 to 420 mm; a yoke is changed without tools.
- Swivel arm — The arm carries the yoke with a heavy part and swings aside, clearing space to place and remove the part by crane or by hand.
