Equipment

Description

The platform gives staff access to the roof of EMU cars for inspection and repair of pantographs, main circuit breakers, surge arresters, air conditioning units, brake resistors and antennas. It travels along the repair track on its own rails and is brought to the required car, so long trains do not need a stationary gantry running the full length of the train.

The chequer-plate working deck is set at the roof level of the series being serviced and is fenced on three sides with 1100 mm guard rails. On the track side there are electrically driven extendable walkways that bridge the gap to the car body and form a continuous surface above the edge of the roof. The platform is driven by two geared motors with soft start, and power is supplied through a cable reel. Access to the deck is by a stairway with a gate; tool bays are provided at the ends.

Platform travel and walkway extension are permitted only after the catenary above the track has been de-energized and earthed: the signal from the earthing system is wired into the control circuits, and the gate key is released by a trapped-key interlock. On request the platform is built with a lifting deck for series with different roof heights, fitted with a beam crane for pantograph removal, 220 V sockets and compressed air outlets, and supplied as a pair for two-sided servicing.

Features

Design features

  • Self-propelled design — The platform is brought to the required car on its own rails along the track without taking up the footprint of a stationary gantry.
  • Extendable walkways — The electric drive extends the walkways to the edge of the roof and retracts them before travel; the position is monitored by limit switches.
  • Earthing interlock — Travel, walkway extension and the gate are released only when the catenary above the track is earthed.
  • Lifting deck — In the optional version the deck height is adjusted for series with different roof heights.
  • Two-sided servicing — A pair of platforms on both sides of the track opens access to all roof equipment of the car at the same time.
