Equipment

Description

The device is designed to secure trains and groups of cars against unintended movement on the tracks of receiving, departure, classification and holding yards. It replaces the manual placement and removal of brake skids, eliminates work by the shunter between tracks and cuts the time to secure and release a train from several minutes to tens of seconds.

Two wheel stops are installed on each track — on the downhill side and on the opposite side. In the working position the stop shoe rises above the rail head and bears against the wheel tread; the load is transferred through the stop body to the sleepers and ballast. Raising and lowering is performed by a self-locking electromechanical drive: the position is fixed by limit switches, and the stop status signal is sent to the yard duty officer's panel and to local indicator signals.

Control is exercised from the duty officer's post, from a local panel by the track or from the yard control system via the customer's interface. In the event of a power failure the stop is moved manually with a removable crank. The drive housing is heated for operation in snow and ice, and the stop design allows snow-clearing machinery to pass. To the customer's specification the device is supplied with track occupancy sensors, guarding and interlocking with signalling equipment.

Features

Design features

  • No brake skids — Securing and release are performed by pressing a button; staff do not step out between the tracks.
  • Holds the train on a gradient — A pair of stops holds a train of up to 6,000 t on a gradient of up to 2.5 ‰, wind load included.
  • Locked on power loss — The self-locking drive holds the shoe in any position; manual operation is performed with a crank.
  • Status indication — The position of every stop is transmitted to the duty officer's panel and duplicated by a local indicator at the track.
  • All-season design — Drive heating and the open stop design are rated for snow, ice and the passage of snow-clearing machinery.
