Equipment

Description

The unit is designed for charging the brake system and testing the air brakes of freight and passenger trains on the tracks of receiving and departure yards. Testing is carried out from a stationary compressed-air source before the road locomotive is coupled, so the brake check neither delays departure nor occupies the locomotive crew.

Compressed air from the yard network enters the control cabinet, where a pressure-reducing assembly with an electronic regulator sets the brake pipe pressure. Following the selected program, the controller performs charging, leakage measurement, a brake application step and release while monitoring pressure at the head and tail of the train. A tail-end pressure sensor transmits its readings over a radio link; the operator follows the test on a touch panel and receives a finished report stating the track, time and result of every operation.

The unit consists of a heated outdoor control cabinet, an air preparation module with filters and a moisture separator, pneumatic columns on the tracks and a cable link to the operator's post. One cabinet serves one to four tracks with sequential or parallel testing. At the customer's request the unit is supplied with a remote panel for the yard duty officer, report transfer to the depot network and additional connection points for long trains.

Features

Design features

  • No road locomotive required — Testing is performed from a stationary air source, which shortens the train's dwell time and frees the locomotive crew.
  • Head and tail monitoring — A radio tail-end pressure sensor shows the actual charge of the last car rather than only the pressure at the connection point.
  • Programmed test modes — Charging, leakage check, full and reduced tests run automatically according to the algorithm set for the train type.
  • A report for every test — Results are stored in the controller memory, printed and transferred to the depot network for analysis and record keeping.
  • Outdoor design — The heated, moisture-protected cabinet is rated for year-round operation on an open yard site.
